Hi I'm Phe !
The person behind Clay to Plate
I teach on
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday evening - 6 pm to 9 pm
Wednesday and Saturday morning - 10 am to 1 pm

I was born and raised in Malaysia, where community and food have always been central to life. The simple inspiration of wanting to enjoy meals on beautiful handmade plates and bowls led me to sign up for my first pottery course.

What started as a focus on learning quickly became a journey of self-awareness and grounding—pottery gave me a quiet moment after long, hectic working hours.

After 20 years in large corporate environments, I decided to step away from the rat race and follow this passion, which eventually led me to set up my own studio. My motivation has always been to share one of the oldest crafts and create a space where people can explore creativity, build confidence, and connect with others.

The most fulfilling moments for me are seeing our community grow—not just in their technical skills, but in confidence and joy. The studio has become more than a place to create; it’s a space where people express themselves, support and cheer for one another, and most importantly, share meals together. As a foodie, I truly believe that sharing food is one of the most powerful ways to connect, regardless of background, culture, or race.

Hi I'm James !
originally from Sydney, Australia and living in the Netherlands since 2024.
I teach on Tuesday evening- 6 pm to 9 pm

Pottery began as a way for me to meet people after moving to a new country, but from the moment I threw my first successful piece, I felt a real sense of pride and possibility.

What started as curiosity soon grew into a meaningful creative practice—one that continues to challenge me and bring me joy.

Working with clay has taught me to slow down, be present, and appreciate the beauty of the process rather than focusing only on the outcome. These are lessons I try to carry with me beyond the studio and into everyday life.

I feel grateful to be able to share this craft with others and to support people as they discover the same calm, confidence, and creativity that pottery has given me.

When I’m not in the studio, I love exploring food and travelling—especially travelling for food. One of my dreams is to fill my kitchen with handmade dinnerware inspired by the meals I love to cook and enjoy.

Hi I'm Rory !
By day, I work as a software developer, but I’ve always loved working with my hands
I teach on Friday evening - 6 pm to 9 pm

One day, I noticed Clay to Plate’s business card in a shop—it caught my eye, though I didn’t act on it right away. A little later, I decided to give it a try, curious to see if pottery could be something for me.

From the very first course, I discovered it was a wonderful way to express my creativity on a regular basis. I never stopped taking classes—not just because it’s a refreshing break from my daily routine, but also because it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to create exactly what I need or want. Over time, many of my pieces have turned into gifts, which makes me especially happy.

Now, I love sharing this experience with newcomers, helping them explore their own creativity and find the same joy and satisfaction that pottery has brought me. 😊

Hi I'm Thao !
I'm from Australia and moved to the Netherlands a few years ago for love.
I teach on Friday morning - 10 am to 1 pm

Pottery is something that’s both calming and energising for me. I love that it’s structured, yet leaves room for spontaneity.

With a background in architecture, I’m used to thinking with precision on a larger scale, where ideas often take time to come to life.

Pottery lets me bring those same principles into a smaller, hands-on scale—and there’s a special kind of joy in using something you’ve made yourself every day.
